Inverlael
Nestled among the forest of Inverlael in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland are clues to a township dating as far back as medieval times. The remnant huddles of croft houses, kilns, and sheilings for cattle point to a once vibrant, bustling community of almost 300 people.

But 200 years ago, they were brutally evicted by the landowner during the Clearances of Inverlael. Forced from the land their ancestors had lived and worked for generations, families faced a struggle to survive the onset of a harsh winter. There was little choice but to leave forever.

Would you like to help ensure that the people of Inverlael and their way of life are preserved and commemorated for future generations? A new project, Lost Inverleal - Finding Balblair, is setting out to reconnect with the descendants of the community. The team at Ullapool Museum are looking for stories and memories handed down by those forced to flee, which will be used to help create a new Minecraft map, alongside a program of events and activities throughout 2020-2022.
Please contact the project co-ordinator if you have information you would like to share.
